Plovdiv
We rented a car (Renault Symbol) for a couple of days. On the first day we went to Plovdiv. It's about 2 hours drive or so.
Plovdiv is a lovely old city, with Roman and Turkish ruins galore. We strolled around the old city, checking the churches, small
musuems and excellent restaurants (ahem).
The little alleys and streets in the old parts is really beautiful -
Stob pyramids
On the second day we drove to Rila (A famous monastery, south of Sofia). On the way we stopped in the village of Stob (pronounced
stov, as it were), where our book said we should check out the 'Stob Pyramids'. Stob was a really shabby, and somewhat sad looking village. We drove
with the car up to the Pyramids (The goats helped us find the way) and then had to walk (climb) about 20 minutes. Both the view and
the pyramids (strange stone formations) were great. It's certainly a place I'd recommend to see!
But first, some photos from the Village itself -
And now the Pyramid pictures, and from the climb up...
