10 days in Grindelwald
We wanted to have a short vacation... 2 weeks, with mountains and hikes. After a lot of thinking (which took about 2 months) we
suddenly thought about Switzerland. Where's better to go than the land of mountains, chocolate and cheese? I mean, Soy-Cheese, of course. Where all the flowers
are in the correct place, labeled and ordered, the treks are plentiful and the Gruezis are handed out as if they are free?
So Switzerland it was. 1 day in Zurich, 10 days in Grindelwald (cute little village in the Bernese Oberland area) and then 1 more day
in Zurich.
We had a great time there. Grindelwald is very beautiful, and there dozens of walks and hikes around. The regular day in Grindelwald
looks like that - wake up, have breakfast, take a cable-car or train or two, do a bit of walking (3-4 hours), get back to the village,
have dinner and go to bed. That was one of the best vacations ever ;-)

Grindelwald village
Our first hotel was the Lauberhorn. It was cool (a mountain-biker oriented place) but it was about 20 minutes walk uphill from the train
station. So after 5 days there we changed to the GletcherGarten which was closer to downtown Grindelwald. Anyway the village
is actually a valley spotted with houses here and there. Just like Manali, but without the noise, the Israelis, the Indians (except the tourists) and the cows
are in the fields and not in the street.
Anyway here are some photos from around the village, to get us started...
First to Bachalspee
On the first day we came to Grindelwald, we hopped over for some Pizzas at Uncle Tom's Hut (a great place!). Tom said we should quickly
go to First (one of the cable-cars, just behind his hut), before the weather gets bad. We did as told, and indeed the next day it was
raining. Overall we had good weather in the trip though.
So you go up to First, and then you walk to a couple of nice lakes...
It's only 1.5 hours walk, and Michal said we should continue down all the way to Bort (one of the cable-car stations).
It was a steep downhill hike, and my toes still hurt as I'm writing these lines.
But it was worth it! great views all around, and a good first walk after two years of sitting and writing PHP and Delphi code.
We reached Bort just as the last cable-car left, but luckily they allowed us to go down, and even without
paying ;-)
